Gaming Journal: Dark Souls - Vol. 2: Ring My Bell

It's been a slow and arduous process but I finally made some really good progress in Dark Souls. And by really good progress, I mean do one of the first things you're supposed to complete in the game. It only took me about 25 hours of grinding and getting my stats up to wield certain badass weapons I was lucky enough to get. Sound tedious? It was at first but once you really dig into Dark Souls, it gets it's vice grip on you and doesn't let go. What might be tedious and frustrating as hell in other games isn't a problem with this game, for me at least.

You get what you work for in this game and that's why I love it. There have been so many weapons, secrets, badass enemies, and just...things to do and find while playing this game. For those in the know, the thing I completed was ringing the first bell at the top of the church tower in the Undead Parish. It was tough. Even with my Black Knight Sword +1, those gargoyles were bitches. It took me 4 tries (and OOOOH I was getting frustrated) but I finally got my movements and dodging down and took them down fairly easily. My sword was doing boss damage, I just needed to play better defense.

I'm currently level 26 and I've been running around the Darkroot Gardens for a bit. I've beat up on some gangly looking trees, floating sting ray looking things, and some really cool looking stone golems. I could see those guys being good for farming at 300 xp a pop! I know of a couple bosses in the area but I want to make sure I'm up for them before rushing in.

I know there's a giant wolf (with a sword in it's mouth) in the area so I might hit him up before watching more scary movies on Netflix!

I noticed in the comments for part one, that you said that you're on meds? Hope you're not taking them for anything serious! :[

Anyway, congrats on ringing the first bell! I'm also wandering around the Darkroot Garden now, I bought that key for 20,000 souls from the blacksmith so I'm wandering around in the area behind the door (and getting my ass handed to me). I've also done one of the bosses in the Darkroot Garden area.

I'm VERY jealous that you have another variation of the Black Knight Sword - I'm still wandering around with my Drake Sword. It wouldn't be so bad if I could upgrade it but I have no idea where I find Twinkling Titanite.

Oh yeah! I also beat that asshole in the basement! You remember that guy with the armour and that weird club/sword thing? Took him down after about 20 backstabs and the ring he gave up wasn't too shabby either! :]

You talking about the dude next to the door to the Dark Basin, who drops the Havel Ring? If so, I beat that dude through the door. Literally! I couldn't unlock the door yet so I just kept stabbing him OUTSIDE of the door from the Dark Basin side and he finally fell. It was cheap way to get the experience and the ring but I didn't care!

I feel like I spent so much time in the Darkroot Gardens/Basin and I beat that Moonlight Butterfly as well as getting some pimpish armor (Eastern) in the Basin (past that 20,000 door, although I came in the back after beating the Hydra).

I'm about to make another post and update my status past that. ;)
